Why Sales?

Sales is a great opportunity with a low barrier to entry.

The sales industry can be intimidating, leaving most wondering how to get into it with no experience. However, in reality, there are no formal education or training programs for sales professionals, thus leaving it open to people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Although you are selling technology, the learning curve is not technical, but rather it is about understanding what your product does (not how) and then, being able to apply that capability to how it solves a business problem.

Why you?

As a military veteran, you have already displayed the key attributes that sales leaders look for as key indicators for future success in their sales organizations.

  • • Employers and sales leaders hold character as a key attribute when making hiring decisions.

    • Veterans live by a warrior's ethos nested in values such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage.

  • • Trust is important in sales organizations both to employers and their current and future clients.

    • At an early age, veterans have been placed in situation of great responsibility with their teammates lives, expensive equipment, and missions that have national security and diplomatic consequences.

  • • Sales leaders look for employees that require little oversite and take ownership for their actions and performance.

    • Making excuses is not accountability. From the beginning of their service, veterans learn to take extreme ownership of their actions and the outcomes of their mission.

  • • Great sales organizations build a culture and foundation of teamwork in order to achieve the company's revenue goals.

    • Mission accomplishment comes from teamwork. Veterans have embraced this concept from their first day of service.

  • • The military is in the business of leadership and businesses need great leaders. Just because a salesperson does well as an individual contributor it doesn't equate to being a leader.

    • Veterans have a proven track record of leadership and responsibility at a very young age. Companies understand that veterans bring a past performance of leadership to their organizations that can be leveraged from day one.

  • • Resiliency is defined as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties – to withstand adversity and bounce back from those difficulties.

    • Regardless of branch of service, veterans have been put in many adverse situations that have required them to overcome fear and being uncomfortable. No matter how difficult the circumstances, veterans are trained to continue to move forward to accomplish the mission.

On top of the low barrier to entry, there are several other reasons sales is an incredible career.
